Marking a high-profile legislative win early in his second term, US President Donald Trump on Friday signed what he called the "One, Big, Beautiful Bill" into law during a celebratory Fourth of July ceremony at the White House.
The landmark measure, described by Trump as delivering on several key campaign promises, includes broad tax cuts , significant boosts to military and immigration enforcement spending, and steep reductions in Medicaid -- elements that have drawn both praise and criticism across party lines.
“It’s really promises made, promises kept,” Trump said, addressing a crowd of supporters gathered on the South Lawn, with First Lady Melania Trump standing beside him. The signing event featured military flyovers and appearances by congressional leaders.
The Department of Homeland Security also hailed the bill, highlighting the $165 billion in appropriations it received.
In a post on X, the department wrote: “President Trump is keeping his promises and delivering results for the American people. With a historic $165 billion in appropriations for DHS, this legislation gives DHS the resources we need to deliver on the President’s promises to deport criminal illegal aliens, secure our borders, and make America safe again.”
The legislation cements major pillars of Trump’s second-term agenda, following intense negotiations in a divided Congress. While Trump and his allies celebrated the bill as a major victory, provisions like the Medicaid cuts have drawn criticism from Democrats and some Republicans.
