The opening of this week’s “Saturday Night Live” featured host Amy Poehler and Tina Fey portraying Pam Bondi and Kristi Noem, respectively.
The sketch opened with a parody of Attorney General Pam Bondi’s Senate hearing this week, where she faced questions about the indictment of former FBI director James Comey, and files linked to Jeffrey Epstein, among other topics.
At one point, Poehler’s portrayal of Bondi is questioned about whether US President Donald Trump instructed her to indict former FBI Director James Comey.
“I’m not going to discuss my private conversations with the president,” Poehler as Bondi said. “I’m not telling you who fell asleep in the middle of a sentence, or who kept calling me Ivanka while patting his lap.”
When questioned whether FBI found photos of Trump with young women during its raid on Epstein’s property, Bondi said, "sir, I'm not even going to dignify that question with a lie."
Later in the SNL cold open, Poehler’s Bondi is questioned about the deployment of ICE agents to US cities, leading to the introduction of Tina Fey as Homeland Security Director Kristi Noem.
Fey’s Noem entered the scene carrying an assault rifle and wearing a baseball cap.
“That’s right, it’s me, Kristi,” Fey as Noem says. "I spelled my name with an ‘i’ because that’s how I thought it was spelled.”
She also joked about recruiting ICE officials through ads targeting “big tough guys” who “take gas station supplements” and “use zip ties because no one trusts them with keys.”
The sketch satirizes Bondi’s recent Senate testimony, during which she frequently clashed with senators questioning her.
Bondi faced tough questioning at a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on Tuesday, where Democrats accused her of politicising the Department of Justice, while Republicans backed her efforts to restore law enforcement’s mission.
In her first appearance before the GOP-led committee since the indictment of former FBI Director James Comey, Bondi defended her leadership, saying she took office to end the “weaponisation of justice” and refocus the department on tackling violent crime.
