Shane Lowry , a close friend and fellow Irish golfer, shared a private conversation with McIlroy’s wife, Erica Stoll , revealing that McIlroy had always said he would retire a "happy man" if he ever triumphed at Augusta.

After celebrating the victory with Stoll and their daughter, Poppy, Lowry took the opportunity to tell Stoll that her husband could now retire, having achieved everything he set out to accomplish in his career.
