IIT JAM registration deadline extended till October 20: Check how to apply and required documents

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay has extended the registration deadline for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2026 to October 20, 2025. This entrance exam serves as a gateway for candidates seeking admission to various MSc and MS programs across IITs . Earlier, the last date for registration was October 12.

The IIT JAM 2026 exam will be conducted on February 15, 2026, in multiple sessions for seven subjects. Approximately 3,000 seats are available across 89 postgraduate programs in 22 IITs, making this a crucial opportunity for students aspiring to pursue higher education in science and technology disciplines. Candidates can apply via the official portal joaps.iitb.ac.in.
JAM 2025 registration process and datesCandidates can register for IIT JAM 2026 online through the JOAPS portal. The extended deadline is October 20, 2025, 11:59 PM IST. The registration process involves creating an account, filling in personal and academic details, uploading scanned documents, selecting exam papers and cities, paying the application fee, and submitting the application. Aspirants can choose up to two test papers and three preferred exam cities.
Exam schedule and subjectsThe JAM 2026 exam will take place on February 15, 2026, with forenoon and afternoon sessions. The seven subjects offered are:


  • Biotechnology (BT)
  • Chemistry (CY)
  • Economics (EN)
  • Geology (GG)
  • Mathematics (MA)
  • Mathematical Statistics (MS)
  • Physics (PH)
Seat availability and counsellingA total of 3,000 seats are offered across 22 IITs. Successful candidates will participate in a counselling process, with seat allocation based on rank, course preference, and availability. IIT Kanpur has introduced three new programs, including an integrated PhD in Sustainable Energy Engineering, MSc in Economics, and MSc-PhD dual degree in Chemistry.
