Jaipur: Amid heightened security, Rajasthan Royals (RR) hit the ground running at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium on Wednesday, holding their first training session since the initial group of players arrived on Tuesday. The three-hour practice saw near-full participation from the Indian contingent, including Sanju Samson, Riyan Parag and Vaibhav Suryavanshi.
A team source revealed that England pacer Jofra Archer will miss the Royals' remaining two league matches due to a thumb injury sustained during their clash against Kolkata Knight Riders.
"Archer isn't coming back because he is suffering from a thumb injury that he sustained during the game against Kolkata Knight Riders. And we are in discussions with Maheesh Theekshana for his potential return. Among foreign players, Wanindu Hasaranga will come on Thursday and Shimron Hetmyer on Friday. South African duo of Kwena Maphaka and Lhuan-dre Pretorious have already arrived," said the source.
Royals' fast bowling coach Shane Bond will also not return because of ‘logistical constraints.
Uncertainty lingers over captain Sanju Samson's fitness. The wicketkeeper-batter, who suffered side strain during an away game against Delhi Capitals, has missed the team's last five matches.
"A decision on Samson's availability for Sunday's match against Punjab Kings will be made in the next couple of days," the source added.
Meanwhile, PBKS will start practicing on Thursday. "Coach Ricky Ponting and the Indian players have arrived. The foreign players are yet to join," said a PBKS source.
