Ryan Reynolds sends heartfelt message to Paul Mullin after Wrexham exit

Wrexham legend Paul Mullin has bid farewell to the club as he embarks on a new journey with Wigan, prompting co-owner Ryan Reynolds to deliver a heartfelt tribute.

Over four illustrious years, Mullin became a Wrexham icon, contributing an impressive 110 goals in 172 appearances since his arrival in 2021 and leading their ascent through the ranks.

Despite his prolific record, Mullin's last season was marred by injury, netting only five times in 32 matches after back surgery. His diminished role after their climb from League One saw him start just nine league fixtures.

With the Red Dragons now preparing for a gruelling Championship season, they've opted to let Mullin continue his career on loan with Wigan for the 2025/26 season, just after sealing a £700,000 deal for Plymouth striker Ryan Hardie.

Reynolds took to Instagram, sharing a poignant video montage of Mullin's finest moments and revealing his emotional turmoil at the thought of Mullin playing elsewhere: "I can't imagine seeing Mulls on loan and in another kit. We wouldn't be where we are without his heart, skill and work ethic. We love you, Paul Mullin. SPM."

Touched by the words, Mullin responded with a heart emoji and conveyed his best wishes for Wrexham on social media: "All the very best to everyone at Wrexham this season, keep the train rolling."

Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson has sent his well-wishes to Mullin on his new challenge, remarking: "I'd like to wish Paul all the best for his loan move. It's a good opportunity for him to get back to playing regular first-team football and I'm sure he's going to be a great signing for Wigan Athletic."

The club also issued a warm farewell in an official statement: "All at Wrexham AFC would like to wish Paul and the Latics the very best for the coming season."

For Mullin, the switch opens up a fresh chapter. "I'm excited for the next part of my story," he stated. "The gaffer has outlined his plan for the season, and I'm hoping to take his trust into the season and make it a really successful one.

"As a player, I give absolutely everything and work as hard as I can. I've scored a lot of goals over the last few years, but more than anything, I give my absolute all for the club that I'm playing for, and I'm going to do that again with Wigan."

Ryan Lowe, Wigan's boss, has expressed his thrill at landing Mullin: "I am delighted that we've managed to sign Paul. He'll be a great addition to the group and is a player who is a proven goal scorer in the EFL.

"He has won promotion in his last three seasons with Wrexham AFC and will add firepower, know-how and experience to the group, which is really important.

"He is here because he is hungry to score more goals, win games and contribute to Wigan Athletic Football Club. Paul is the type of character we want in the dressing room, and his experience will help support the team on and off the pitch."
