In one episode of Our Farm Next Door, TV star Amanda Owen shared what would really disappoint her after finding "valuables" under her countryside home. The Channel 4 show saw the Yorkshire farmer uncover some smashed up pieces of pottery and she and four of her children decided to clean them up a bit to take a better look.
The 50-year-old mum asked her kids if they knew where it had come from. One of the children replied: "Anty John's?" Amanda replied: "It did," before explaining: "And it came from under the foundations of the house. I've brought you a sponge and wondered if you want to wash it because I want to stick it back together. There's quite a lot of it." As the kids grabbed a scrubbing brush each, they uncovered some delicate patterns on the crockery.
Speaking to the camera, Amanda explained a bit more about the antique finds. She said: "When we were actually digging the floor out at Anty John's we came across quite a lot of smashed up, broken crockery and pottery.
"It's not exactly treasure, you know, I don't know if there is anything of any great value. There's certainly no Ming vases or anything but any pottery that you find under the flags has got to be of a certain age."
She added: "So yeah, it's just a little project to see what we can actually piece back together. It's that sort of firing the imagination, that's what I love about the place.
"There's always a story of the people and how they lived. And, for us, the excitement and the interest is in the human story."
Amanda then shared something that would massively disappoint her. She joked: "I guess the one thing that would spoil it would be if we got one of these and in little letters, it said 'not suitable for use in a dishwasher'."
The interesting discovery came as Amanda Owen and her family were renovating the historic farmhouse Anty John's, located near Ravenseat Farm in the Yorkshire Dales. The renovation has previously been described as a "never-ending task," with progress made but still much work to be done.
