Naomi Osaka 'teams up with Iga Swiatek's ex-coach' after Patrick Mouratoglou split

Naomi Osaka is reportedly set to work with Tomasz Wiktorowski, the former coach of Iga Swiatek. The four-time Major winner announced her sudden split from Patrick Mouratoglou on Sunday, days after Emma Raducanu beat her in the second round of the WTA 500 in Washington.

Osaka is already on the hunt for a new mentor. The former world No. 1 is competing at this week's Canadian Open, and Polish coach Wiktorowski is jetting out to join her.

According to Forty Deuce, Swiatek's former coach is travelling to Montreal for a meeting at the WTA 1000 event. For now, their link-up will only be a trial, rather than a proper coaching partnership.

But Osaka has been left without a full-time coach after parting ways with Mouratoglou. The French tennis coach, best known for working with Serena Williams, joined Osaka's team last September.

On Sunday, the Japanese tennis star took to Instagram to announce their split. "Merci Patrick. It was such a great experience learning from you. Wishing you nothing but the best," she wrote.

"You are one of the coolest people I've ever met and I'm sure I'll see you around."

Following her 6-4 6-2 defeat to Raducanu last week, Osaka will face qualifier Ariana Arseneault in her opening match in Montreal under Wiktorowski's guidance.

The Polish tennis coach has not worked with a player since parting ways with Swiatek last Autumn. He joined Swiatek's team in 2021. He guided her to the world No. 1 ranking, and she won four of her six Major titles while working with Wiktorowski.

He won the WTA Coach of the Year award in 2023 for his work with Swiatek, and also coached former world No. 2 Agnieszka Radwanska from 2011 to 2018.

Osaka previously worked with 'super coach' Wim Fissette, who now coaches Swiatek. The pair had an on-and-off four-year partnership, which ultimately came to an end last September.

A few weeks later, Fissette started working with the world No. 3, and they recently won their first Grand Slam title together at Wimbledon.

Former world No. 1 Osaka also worked with Sascha Bajin from 2017 to 2019, winning her first two Major titles under his guidance. They split days after her 2019 Australian Open triumph. Jermaine Jenkins worked with her for a few months following their split.
