Man Utd star announces exit moments after final whistle as duo join him

Christian Eriksen has announced his departure from Manchester United after the expiration of his contract next month.

Following his penalty in United's 2-0 victory against Aston Villa at Old Trafford, the Danish midfielder confirmed the news after the final match of the season. Substituted in for the second half, Eriksen was handed the penalty by Bruno Fernandes on manager Ruben Amorim's instructions.

When quizzed by TNT Sports if that was his last match in a United shirt, Eriksen stated, "Yes, that is correct. I think that is also why Bruno gave me a penalty as a nice farewell.

"I think we did it today for the fans. It has been a tough season, but I am going to wish them all the best. It is an incredible stadium, an incredible club and I have no doubt I will be back at some point.

"It has been an exciting few years being in this stadium and playing for this club. I have enjoyed it and I take a lot of good memories with me."

When questioned about his future plans, Eriksen shared: "First of all, a holiday and relax, and then the national team. Then I will see what the future holds. I am still fit to play."

Eriksen's spot-kick marked his fifth goal of the term since netting against Nottingham Forest at home back in August 2023.

Eriksen signed with United on a free transfer in July 2022 following a successful stint at Brentford. He clocked up over 100 appearances for the club, netting eight goals.

Eriksen will be joined out of the Old Trafford exit doors by Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof, with the pair's contracts also running out.
