Prime Video's Ballard is nearly here but what's the connection to Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer?

Set in Los Angeles, Ballard is a 10-episode drama featuring former homicide detective Renee Ballard (portrayed by Maggie Q) as she takes charge of the cold cases division with assistance from her volunteer team.

In addition to attempting to crack some of history's most complex and long-forgotten crimes, Ballard is grappling with personal issues within the LAPD.

As Ballard premieres on Wednesday, July 9, on Prime Video, viewers are intrigued about its link to a popular Netflix legal drama.

So, how does Prime Video's Ballard connect to Netflix's The Lincoln Lawyer?

The Lincoln Lawyer, centred around the work of charismatic lawyer Mickey Haller (Manuel Garcia-Rulfo), is a highly acclaimed drama on Netflix that returned for its third season earlier this year.

Fans are now eagerly anticipating its fourth series, although a release date has yet to be announced.

Ballard and The Lincoln Lawyer share the same universe as both series are based on novels penned by author Michael Connelly.

Ballard is actually a spin-off of Bosch: Legacy, another of Connelly's creations, with Detective Ballard first appearing in the grand finale of the Harry Bosch series earlier this year.

Another significant link between the two series is that Bosch, played by Titus Welliver, is Mickey Haller's half-brother.

The trailer for Ballard has already confirmed that Welliver will return to his role as Bosch in the Prime Video drama, but a crossover with The Lincoln Lawyer seems highly unlikely.

The Lincoln Lawyer has been streaming on Netflix since its premiere, while Ballard is set to debut on Prime Video.

Given that the shows are produced by entirely different studios, it's improbable that these characters will cross paths, despite their indirect connection through the books.

However, since Amazon Studios owns both Ballard and Bosch, this allows for a connection between the series on television.
