I visited a stunning sandy beach that's better than Cornwall in summer

A beach with golden sand and an inviting sea is somewhere I am lucky enough to regularly visit. Set in a countryside area, this tranquil beach is easily reached by car, public transport or even on foot via the South West Coast Path - and it's brimming with coastal charm.

Now if you are a dog owner, you'll be pleased to hear that this beach is pooch-friendly all the year round. However, if like me, you prefer a dog-free sunbathe or dip, there are other beach spots nearby where dogs are not permitted - so everyone is happy. Either way, on a hot summer's day, this beach is the perfect little suntrap with a usually calm-looking sea to step into for a cool down throughout the day.

The yellow sand bay of Bovisand Beach in Devon is a popular spot with local and visiting families - and it has a really friendly vibe.

Some visitors I spoke to when I visited the beach even compared its unspoilt charm to popular Cornish beaches - and along this coastline you even get glimpses of Cornwall in the distance.

Bovisand Beach is located just off the South West Coast Path, there are two cafes nearby along with a caravan park and holiday lodges.

However, if you are looking for shops and noisy entertainment, this is not the best choice for you as Bovisand defines itself as a tranquil area where you come to take in the natural beauty of what surrounds you.

For me, I think that's all you need on a baking hot day in Devon (or Cornwall) - a place surrounded by woodland and sea.

I absolutely love a cold-water sea swim and Bovisand Beach is a nice place to ease yourself in as it's sandy and the sea is usually flat and inviting.

But the beauty doesn't end at this sandy cove, if you head one way you'll reach several other beauty spots reachable via the South West Coast Path.

Wembury Beach is a seven-mile walk from Bovisand Beach, but even if you don't go the whole way, you'll pass other little bays along the path.

The coastal path in the other direction is equally fascinating and fun to explore, eventually leading you to Jennycliff Bay or Mount Batten Bay, where you can head over to the city of Plymouth by a small water ferry - if you wish.

This destination is a must for those who love nature, walking and sea swimming - and you may even be lucky enough to find yourself in your 'own private paradise'.

In the review of Bovisand, the visitor wrote: "This small beach (accessible by numerous steps), clear waters, stunning cliffs, and a peaceful atmosphere is just a 25-minute drive from Plymouth Hoe.

"We visited on a Sunday in July, and to our delight, the beach was incredibly quiet- practically our own private paradise.

"Ideal for families, swimming enthusiasts, and nature lovers, it's perfect for soaking up the coastal charm along the South West Coast Path."
