Armed police have responded to a huge machete fight that reportedly broke out between teenagers in Manchester. Officers descended on Hollyhedge Road, near the Benchill Metrolink tram stop in south Manchester, shortly after 2pm on Monday afternoon following reports that a group of teenagers were fighting with machetes.
Photos from the scene showed a large police presence outside a row of local shops, with armed officers detaining a teenager. Witnesses described chaotic scenes, claiming that 'loads of kids' were seen 'fighting with machetes.'
One social media user said a knife had been pulled earlier on a nearby tram, leaving passengers frightened, Manchester Evening News reported.
Another person wrote: "Someone pulled a knife out on the tram my daughter was on."
Someone else added, "K***head with a machete just scared the s*** out of my cousin" followed by "fighting with machetes, loads of kids."
A 17-year-old boy was arrested at the scene on suspicion of breaching court bail and remains in police custody, a spokesperson has said.
Greater Manchester Police confirmed that work is underway to identify others that were involved in the incident.
