Diego Leon has issued a strong promise in his first address to Manchester United fans after becoming the club's second signing of the summer on Saturday. The 18-year-old left-back joins for an initial £3.3million, which could rise to £7m through add-ons, following Matheus Cunha's £62.5m arrival from Wolves.

United have suggested that Leon will be integrated into the first team, as well as the academy, as he settles into life in Manchester after leaving his homeland Paraguay. The former Cerro Porteno talent should be involved in Ruben Amorim's pre-season training and will likely travel on the tour of the United States.

And he has laid down his commitment to becoming a success at Old Trafford after finally completing his switch, which was agreed in January.

"First of all, I want to thank God for giving me the opportunity to defend such a great badge as Manchester United," Leon wrote on Instagram.

"I promise to give my best every day, in training, on the pitch, and off it. Thank you to the club for the trust and to my family for always being by my side.

"I hope to bring a lot of joy to all the Manchester United fans and everyone who supports me on this journey. One more goal achieved. From Paraguay to the world. Let's go, Red Devils!"
