England is set to freeze this week as temperatures drop below zero following Storm Benjamin. According to weather maps, icy conditions could occur, and a band of rain and potential flooding could coincide with the plummeting temperatures.
The North of England will wake up to the coldest conditions on Sunday, November 26, with lows of -1C forecast between North Yorkshire and Cumbria. The majority of England will feel chilly, with temperatures dipping below 4C across the length of the country at 9am. The south will sit between 2-3C and the north of England will range from below zero to 1C, according to weather maps by WXCharts.
The coldest weather has been forecast inland, with a patch of icy conditions between Northumberland and Cumbria.
The Met Office predicts a wet weekend ahead. Its weather maps show rain will sweep in from the west with up to 8mm of rainfall per hour on Sunday morning, which is set to move eastward over the country.
Its outlook for Saturday to Monday predicted: "Feeling colder Saturday with further scattered showers, these wintry over the Scottish mountains. Longer spells of rain at times on Sunday and Monday with winds picking up once again."
Wind, rain and flood warnings have been put in place this week as Storm Benjamin hits parts of the UK. This could stretch into the weekend, as the Environment Agency warned local coastal flooding is "possible in parts of the East of England on Saturday".
It adds that land, roads and some properties could flood, and there could be travel disruption.
