After four days of intense cross-border violence, a ceasefire has finally been declared between Pakistan and the Taliban. The truce, which came into effect at 6 p.m. on Wednesday (October 15, 2025), has provided temporary calm, yet deep resentment and shock linger across Pakistan.
The recent clashes saw fierce retaliation from Taliban fighters against the Pakistani army. Several viral videos on social media allegedly show Afghan forces killing Pakistani soldiers and desecrating their bodies. Taliban fighters were seen displaying the uniforms and pants of slain Pakistani troops as trophies of victory. Reports also suggest that the Taliban captured a Pakistani T-55 tank near Kandahar, though no official confirmation has been issued. Videos of Taliban fighters riding the captured tank and celebrating in a victory parade have further enraged Pakistani citizens.
“India is our enemy, but never insulted our martyrs”Amid widespread anger, many voices in Pakistan have turned critical of their own military and leadership. Pakistani analyst Zaigham Khan wrote on X (formerly Twitter):
“India is our sworn enemy, but even they have never insulted our martyrs. If there is any honor left in Kabul, correct this now — or be ready to face the consequences.”
This sentiment has resonated deeply across Pakistan, with many recalling the 1999 Kargil War, when the Indian Army respectfully buried Pakistani soldiers who were disowned by their own country.
Public Outrage and Self-ReflectionFollowing these disturbing events, social media in Pakistan has been flooded with outrage. Citizens are openly questioning their government’s policies and its long-standing ties with extremist groups. One user wrote, “We abandoned our soldiers in Kargil, and India gave them a dignified farewell. Now those we once supported are dishonoring us.”
