US President Donald Trump on Thursday hinted at a very big and fantastic trade deal with India. This was said by the team of officials of both countries a few weeks after the four-day closed talks on the trade agreement. This conversation was done in a closed room. Addressing the 'Big Beautiful Event' at the White House, Trump said that he is going to have a very big deal with India.
Trump said, 'Everyone wants to do a deal. Wants to be a part of it. Remember a few months ago the media was saying is there anyone interested? Well, we have just done a deal with China yesterday. We are doing some great deals. We are going to do another deal, maybe with India. A very big deal.'
Trump also said that America will not do trade deals with every other country. He said, 'We are not going to do deals with everyone. To some people, we will just send a letter and say thank you very much. You have to pay 25, 35, 45 percent. This is an easy way to do it. My people don't want to do it that way. They want to do something, but they want to do more deals than I do.'
The objective of India-US trade deal
The four-day talks on the mega trade deal reportedly focused on greater market access for industrial and agricultural products in both countries, tariff reduction, and non-tariff barriers, people familiar with the matter said. The US delegation was led by officials from the Office of the US Trade Representative, while the Indian team of negotiators from the trade ministry was led by Rajesh Aggarwal (Commerce and Industry Secretary).

The objective of the talks for the deal is reportedly to increase the annual bilateral trade between the two countries from the current $190 billion to $500 billion by 2030. When the talks ended on June 10, Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal said that India and the US are in the process of negotiating a fair and equitable trade deal that will benefit both economies. He said, 'Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Trump met in February 2025, and our two leaders have decided to enter into a bilateral trade agreement, which will be mutually beneficial for both economies, businesses on both sides, and the people of both countries. We are negotiating to reach a good, fair, equitable, and balanced agreement to promote trade.'
Trade deal can be finalized soon.
Earlier this month, US Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick also said that a trade deal between India and the US can be finalized soon, in which both countries can protect their interests.
US-China trade deal
Trump, while addressing the 'Big Beautiful Bill' program, also informed that he has signed a trade deal with China on Wednesday. Although he did not elaborate on the details of the agreement, a White House official confirmed that the deal focuses on expediting rare earth shipments from China to the US. The two sides also reportedly agreed on an additional understanding for a framework to implement the Geneva Accords. The agreement comes after escalating tensions between the US and China that had almost halted bilateral trade.
