These days, advanced safety features like ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) are in the news. However, a recent survey has revealed that Indian car buyers have different priorities. Surprisingly, even an essential safety feature like 6 airbags is not people's first choice. So, which feature do about 50 percent of urban car owners consider the most important? The answer is the front and rear dashcam!
Changing thinking of urban car owners
Park+ Research Labs spoke to 3,000 car owners from Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bangalore and found out which feature should be mandatory in their view of new cars. The results of the survey are really surprising and show that today's car buyer has smart and practical thinking.
Dashcam: The most important feature
About 48 percent of people said that new cars should have front and rear dashcams. This is even above features like airbags and a 5-star crash rating. The main reason behind this is the increasing road rage cases, hit-and-run incidents, and hassles in insurance claims. In such a situation, dashcams serve as both evidence and safety. People are now believing in preparation beforehand, not just after the accident.
5-star rating of Bharat NCAP
In the survey, 32 percent of the people said that Bharat NCAP's 5-star safety rating is necessary. This rating shows the structural strength of the vehicle and safety for both children and adults. Now customers assume that new vehicles must have this level of safety. Bharat NCAP rating reflects the performance of the vehicle in ensuring adult and child safety, which increases the buyer's confidence in top-level safety standards.
6 airbags: No longer a necessity, a normal feature
Only 10 percent of people considered 6 airbags as an essential feature. However, most big companies are now providing 6 airbags as standard in their vehicles. Even in mid and low-range cars. Therefore, it is no longer a 'different thing', but has become a common thing.
All Disc Brakes
Only 8 percent of car buyers considered all-disc brakes necessary. Although this feature improves the braking performance of the vehicle significantly. Still, its popularity is not that much, perhaps due to a lack of information or more focus on features like airbags.
Low demand for other features
Only 2 percent of people gave priority to other features. This clearly shows that today's customers are first looking for safety and utility in vehicles.
'Need, not luxury'
Now that Indian customers have become more aware than before, their choice is also changing. In this era of technology, only advanced systems will not suffice, people now want features that can directly deal with everyday challenges. Things like dashcam are no longer a 'luxury', but have become a 'need'.
