A man has ben killed and at least eleven people have been injured during a that involved police at a popular tourist destination.
On Saturday, April 26, on duty in the area saw an altercation break out between multiple people. One person fired a during the fight, police said, and one of the officers at the scene "responded by discharging their firearm."
The incident happened at around 11:50pm local time near the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach, .
Police said the person shot by an officer died from their injuries. Eleven other people have reported being injured and are currently receiving medical treatment. Police have confirmed the officer who discharged their gun was not injured.

Michael Howard, who witnessed the shooting, described the incident as "traumatising" to local outlet , and recalled seeing people near him drop to the ground after being shot.
He said: "I remember hearing gunfire shots just start going off everywhere. I remember seeing a girl fall that had been injured. I remember seeing the guy who had been shot fall to the ground. I saw blood everywhere. It was just very traumatising."
The Myrtle Beach Police Department (MBPD) and South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) have urged the public to share any information or videos taken of the shooting with the police to help their investigations.
A spkesperson for the force said:"On Saturday, April 26, 2025, at approximately 11:50 p.m., officers with the Myrtle Beach Police Department observed a disturbance involving multiple individuals in the 900 block of North Ocean Boulevard.
During the altercation, one individual began firing a weapon. At that time, based on the immediate threat, one of our officers responded by discharging their firearm. The officer involved was not injured.
"The Myrtle Beach Police Department offers its prayers and deepest sympathies to everyone affected by this incident. In accordance with established protocol, the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) will conduct an independent investigation. Simultaneously, the Myrtle Beach Police Department will carry out an internal review of the incident. We appreciate the public’s patience as both investigations proceed, and all leads are thoroughly examined."
They took to on Sunday, April 27 at 9.53am local time. The post read: "11 individuals have been identified as having sustained injuries during this incident and are receiving medical treatment. The individual shot during officer response has passed away as a result of his injuries.
"We continue to remind those who may have information or video footage related to this incident to come forward. Information can be shared with SLED or the Myrtle Beach Police Department at 843-918-1382.
"Our hearts and continued prayers are with all those affected, as well as their loved ones during this difficult time. As stated previously, we appreciate the public’s patience as this investigation continues. The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) will provide future updates related to this case."
