Ex-Formula 1 driver and now broadcasting mainstay was caught off guard by a car rather than conversation at the 2024 , specifically during a pre-race grid walk.
Known for his mix of expert commentary and , Brundle's alike have become iconic. Yet it was in Miami last year where an unexpected backfire from Hamilton's vehicle, not a star's snub, brought the drama.

"These are the lights that you see flashing," began the F1 pundit, before the car backfired. Brundle, no stranger to the perils of motorsport from his own racing days, carried on with a grin after the surprising jolt, remarking: "That just backfired and nearly took me away!
"These are the lights flashing when they're harvesting or in the rain. Luckily, that hit me on the knee and not anywhere else, that Mercedes of !"
The car was seemingly more talkative on the grid than Hamilton, who opts out of giving interviews in the moments leading up to the race.

In a 2022 interview with GQ, he explained his approach to drivers during the grid walk: "I'm not really going to be hitting them with an, 'I heard your contract is up soon' or something like that.

"Or some come up to me in the paddock and go, 'You haven't seen me on the grid for ages, just come and talk to me on the grid.' And then others will never talk.
"Lewis used to talk to me a lot and then stopped. So, we take it as it comes," admitted Brundle, who has been working for Sky Sports since 2012.
Hamilton, who does engage in interviews with Brundle at other times, will be aiming to improve his performance in his Ferrari at the 2025 renewal of the Miami Grand Prix following a series of disappointing weekends since his unexpected sprint race triumph at round two in China.
