Jamie Vardy stunt, brutal chants and Premier League ref's medical tests after debut disaster

The newest Premier League referee had a debut to forget as Referee David Webb saw out less than 25 minutes of his top-flight bow before being forced off

Play was delayed for 12 minutes at the King Power Stadium with Webb forced to undergo concussion tests and being placed under further observation after the incident.

Webb went down after the collision and rolled on the floor in agony holding his face. As play went on around him, Jamie Vardy noticed the issue and raised the official’s arm

That subsequently stopped the game and physios from both sides - who had been waiting on the touchline to rush on - headed over.

As he received treatment, he was brutally serenaded by supporters in the East Midlands of "you're not fit to referee.”

A stretcher was brought onto the field but Webb, who has been a referee since the age of 20 and has officiated in the English League since 2008, was eventually able to walk to the changing rooms, helped by medical staff, before undergoing medical tests.

Fourth official Sam Barrott eventually took charge of the match - Phil Sharp, the officials’ coach, took over fourth official duties - but only after the lengthy delay and an announcement over the tannoy that the game would soon restart.

That was met by a chorus of ", you're having a laugh,” from supporters of both sides.

The incident occurred shortly after Vardy had scored his 199th goal for the Foxes to hand them the lead over the rock bottom Saints.

That was Leicester's first goal in the league at home since December 8 and led to jubilant chants of "We scored a goal" from the Foxes fans.

In the 44th minute Ayew doubled the home side’s advantage, his awful free kick hitting the wall but rebounding kindly back to him, and he hammered beyond into the bottom corner.
