Alexander Isak has sent a goodbye message to Newcastle United after completing his British record moveto Liverpool. Isak made his exit after a tense summer training away from his team-mates as he attempted to force the move through.
Transfer deadline day saw Liverpool part way with £125million to prise Isak away from Newcastle after the forward helped the club to Champions League qualification and Carabao Cup glory. The star striker was much-loved on Tyneside but saw that relationship breakdown amid his posturing for a move and explosive statement as he attempted to facilitate a move to the Reds.
But in the aftermath of his Anfield arrival, Isak has expressed his gratitude to Newcastle and the City's fans, describing his three-year spell as unforgettable. The 25-year-old described his time at the club as an honour.
Posting on Instagram, Isak said: "I want to express my gratitude to my teammates, the staff, and above all, the city of Newcastle and all the amazing supporters for the three unforgettable years we shared together.
"Together, we have written history and brought the club to the place where it truly belongs. It has been an honour to be part of the journey from reaching the Champions League to winning the first trophy in over 70 years.

"Forever grateful. Thank you, Newcastle."
In contrast, Newcastle's announcement of the deal was more straightforward. There was no sign of any affection when the club confirmed the news on Monday.
A short statement read: "Newcastle United can announce the sale of striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool for a significant British record transfer fee. The Sweden international joined the Magpies from Real Sociedad in 2022 and made 109 appearances in all competitions."

Anthony Gordon had kinder words for his former team-mate following the news. The former Everton forward looked past the conflicts of the summer to send his well-wishes.
"Regardless of the situation & what's gone on," Gordon posted. "It's been a pleasure to play with you. One of the best chemistries I've had on the pitch and more importantly a great person and teammate I wish you nothing but the best brother."
Isak has also revealed his motivation for the move. “It’s a mixture of what the club is building, but what they’re building on top of what the club already is," he said.
"The history of the club. Me getting the chance to be a part of this, I want to create history. I want to win trophies."
