Terror Strikes Again in Kashmir: Social Worker Gunned Down in Kupwara Home Invasion

Terror returned to Jammu and Kashmir late Saturday night as suspected militants stormed into the home of a 45-year-old social worker, Ghulam Rasool Magre, and shot him dead in Kupwara district. Officials confirmed on Sunday that Rasool succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital.

According to reports, the terrorists entered Rasool’s house in Kandi Khas, engaged him in brief conversation, and then opened fire at close range before fleeing. Hearing the gunshots, villagers rushed to the scene and alerted the police. Despite being quickly moved to the hospital, Rasool could not be saved.

Massive Search Operation Launched

In response to the killing, the army and police forces have cordoned off the entire area and launched an extensive search operation to track down the assailants. Authorities are still investigating the motive behind the attack.

Cross-Border Tensions Escalate

Meanwhile, tensions flared along the Line of Control as Pakistani forces opened fire on Indian positions in the Rampur sector overnight. Indian forces responded firmly. Incidents of cross-border firing have been reported frequently in recent weeks, adding to the volatile atmosphere.

Security on High Alert Following Pahalgam Attack

This latest killing comes just days after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam on April 22, where 26 civilians were massacred by terrorists at Baisaran Valley, a popular tourist site. That attack is being compared to the horrific 2019 Pulwama bombing, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel. Security across Kashmir has been heightened in the wake of the Pahalgam attack, but the continued violence underlines the persistent threat in the region post-Article 370 abrogation.
