There can be many reasons for spinal disease. In most cases, it is related to our lifestyle. These problems can be avoided to a great extent by adopting the right habits and getting timely tests and treatment.

Slipped Disc Symptoms: The spine is the most important part of our body. It not only helps in keeping the body upright, but also protects the nerves reaching the rest of the body from the brain. But when there is a problem in the spine, this problem can cause many types of physical problems, such as back pain, neck pain, numbness in hands and feet, tingling, or difficulty in walking.
Often people complain of constant tingling, numbness, or pain in the hands or feet. Sometimes this is due to normal fatigue or strain on the nerves, but if these symptoms persist repeatedly or for a long time, then it can also be a sign of a serious problem related to the spine. According to experts, there are some diseases of the spine which directly affect the nerves and muscles of our hands and feet.
Dr. Akhilesh Yadav, an orthopedic surgeon at Max Hospital, explains that there are a total of 33 vertebrae (total segments of the spine) in the spine, between which there are discs. These discs make our body flexible. They also protect the nerves. When due to some reason the disc slips or there is pressure on the nerves, it can be felt in the form of pain, tingling or weakness in the hands or feet. In medical language, it is called 'Cervical Radiculopathy' (pressure in the nerves connected to the neck) or 'Lumbar Radiculopathy' (pressure in the nerves connected to the waist).
Cervical spondylitis may be the reason behind pain in hands
If the pain in your hands starts from the neck and goes downwards, then it can be a sign of cervical spondylitis. In this, there is wear and tear or swelling in the upper bones of the spine (cervical spine), due to which the nerves get compressed and the pain goes to the fingers. Sometimes the hands can also become numb or the gripping power may decrease.
If there is pain in the legs, then waist check is necessary
If there is a constant burning sensation, strain, weakness or pain in the legs - especially if it spreads below the waist, then it could be due to lumbar spondylitis or slip disc. Due to pressure on the nerves of the waist, the pain spreads throughout the legs and there may be difficulty in walking.
When to contact a doctor
– If the pain has persisted for several weeks
-If your hands and feet feel numb or weak
-If the pain is more at night and does not get relief even after resting
-If you are having difficulty walking or holding things with your hands
Treatment and prevention
– Depending on the severity of the problem, treatment may require physiotherapy, pain relievers, muscle strengthening exercises, or in some cases, surgery.
– Experts also recommend not to sit in the same position for a long time, maintain correct spinal posture, and exercise regularly.
– Do not take pain in hands or legs lightly, especially if it is happening frequently. This can be a sign of spinal disease in the body, which needs to be identified and treated on time.
