Mumbai Weather Update: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For City & MMR With Heavy Rain Expected On July 2 & 3; June Rainfall Above Average

Mumbai: After a break of couple of days, Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions are expected to receive heavy rainfall for the next two days. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Yellow Alert for heavy rainfall at isolated places for Mumbai, Thane and Palghar for July 2 & 3. While Orange Alert for heavy to very heavy rains is issued for Raigad district for the same period.

The IMD has also issued a Nowcast warning for heavy rainfall spells on Tuesday, July 1. Mumbai received moderate rainfall in the evening and night at isolated places. As per local weather forecast for the next 48 hours for Mumbai city and suburbs, the skies will be generally with intermittent spells of moderate to heavy rainfall. The maximum and minimum temperatures will remain around 31°C and 27°C.

The monsoon arrived 16 days early, on May 26 this year and the city has been witnessing downpour since then. However, there was a brief lull in June after which the monsoon activity picked up towards the end of the month.

Mumbai and it's metropolitan regions received more than average June rainfall this year, also leading to the lakes supplying water to Mumbai crossing 40% water level early in the season.

From June 1 to July 1, the Colaba observatory has recorded 598 mm rainfall and Santacruz observatory has recorded 523 mm rainfall.
