Indian Premier League giants Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are reportedly showing serious interest in acquiring Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain and wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson during the ongoing IPL trading window. According to a Cricbuzz report, CSK have confirmed that they are monitoring the 30-year-old’s availability and are keen to explore the possibility of bringing him into their squad.
A CSK official was quoted saying, “We are definitely looking at Sanju. He is an Indian batter, who is a keeper and an opener. So if he is available, we will certainly have a look at the option of having him in our fold.” The official clarified that while the franchise has not yet decided on a trade offer, their interest in Samson is firm “in principle.”

The development comes amid rising speculation about Samson’s uncertain future with Rajasthan Royals. During the 2025 IPL season, the Kerala-born cricketer missed several matches due to a thumb injury followed by a side strain. While Riyan Parag led the team in his absence, questions began to surface about Samson’s relationship with the new team management led by head coach Rahul Dravid. However, Dravid had dismissed such reports during the season, calling them baseless.
Sanju Samson, who has captained Rajasthan Royals since 2021, remains a key figure in the franchise. He was the team’s top retention at ₹18 crore and continues to be a fan favorite.
If CSK go ahead with the move, the five-time champions will likely need to make significant adjustments to their purse or negotiate a swap deal, given Samson's high retention value. While Stephen Fleming, CSK’s head coach, has reiterated that the team is focused on long-term leadership planning, likely with Ruturaj Gaikwad in mind, it’s still unclear how Samson would fit into their leadership plans, if at all.
IND Vs ENG: Washington Sundar & Nitish Kumar Reddy Likely In Contention For 2nd Test As India Consider Major Changes
India will face England in the second Test at Edgbaston, Birmingham from July 2 at 3:30 PM IST. After losing the first Test, India is likely to make a few changes to their playing XI.
Star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah could be rested for this match. Indian assistant coach Ryan ten Doeschate said they are managing his workload carefully. With Bumrah possibly missing, India needs to rethink its bowling attack.

To replace Bumrah, India may pick Kuldeep Yadav, who can offer spin variety. Also, all-rounders Washington Sundar and Nitish Kumar Reddy are being considered. They can both bowl and bat, which adds balance to the team.
Washington Sundar is experienced and can bowl long spells. Nitish Kumar Reddy is a young all-rounder and has impressed in domestic cricket. India might pick either of them to strengthen both batting and bowling.
India has never won a Test match at Edgbaston. Out of 8 games there, they’ve lost 7 and drawn 1. This makes the second Test even more important, as the team looks to level the series.
