has been struggling with a string of poor performances of late, and the PSL 2025 match between Peshawar Zalmi and Multan Sultans was no different. Babar once again failed to put up a show, as he departed for only a couple of runs in the game at Rawalpindi on Saturday, April 19.

Peshawar batted first in the must-win match and were already in a spot of bother as opener Saim Ayub departed after adding a couple of runs in the second over. The fans expected Babar to take control and steady the ship, but it sunk further as the star batter departed just six balls later, failing to read a straight delivery by . The umpire had no hesitation in raising the finger, and the captain had to make his way back.

With yet another unimpressive outing with the bat, Babar now has only three runs from as many games, as he scored a two-ball duck in the opening game, followed by a run in the second game, and lastly, a couple of runs in the game against the Sultans. These stats are highly concerning for someone of his stature, as he is considered the best Pakistani batter of the current generation by fans and experts alike.

Much like Babar, the Peshawar side isn't having a great time either under his leadership. However, they did manage to pull off a win against the Sultans, who are now the only team without a win in the tenth edition of the league. The side put on 227 on the board with crucial contributions with the bat from Tom Kohler-Cadmore (52 off 30), Mohammad Haris (45 off 21), Mitchell Owen (34 off 15) and Abdul Samad (40 off 14). The bowlers also did their job and got the last season’s finalists were bowled out for just 107 runs, getting Babar & Co to a 120-run win.

Peshawar hope for Babar's comeback

The Peshawar Zalmi had made the playoffs of the PSL in the last three seasons of the tournament. Their 30-year-old batter was also among the top run-getters for the team in the preceding two editions. Babar was the top run scorer in the tournament last season with 569 runs in the 11 matches he played and had an average of 56.90.

The Lahore-born had a strike rate of 142.60 that season and had scored five half-centuries and one century that year as his team finished third after losing the second eliminator to eventual champions Islamabad United. The Zalmi will need the hope for the ace cricketer to return to similar kind of showings with the bat in order to have greater chances of winning.
