EPFO Introduces Home-Based Digital Life Certificate Facility for Pensioners
In a major relief for pensioners, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has launched a new service that allows retired individuals to submit their Digital Life Certificate (Jeevan Pramaan) right from the comfort of their homes. The initiative, introduced in collaboration with India Post Payments Bank (IPPB), eliminates the need for pensioners to visit banks or EPFO offices to verify their life certificates.
Under this partnership, EPFO pensioners can now generate and submit their Jeevan Pramaan using doorstep banking services provided by IPPB. This move is part of the government’s broader vision to make citizen-centric services accessible and hassle-free, particularly for senior citizens who often face mobility challenges.
What is a Digital Life Certificate?A Digital Life Certificate, commonly known as Jeevan Pramaan, is an Aadhaar-based biometric certificate that serves as digital proof of a pensioner’s existence. Each certificate carries a unique identification number that is automatically shared with the pension-disbursing agency. This digital verification ensures the continued release of pension benefits without requiring the pensioner to appear physically at any institution.
The system was initially introduced to modernize the pension verification process and minimize fraud or delays caused by manual submission. By integrating biometric authentication and Aadhaar verification, the EPFO has further strengthened the credibility and efficiency of pension management in India.
How Will Pensioners Benefit from IPPB’s Doorstep Service?India Post Payments Bank, which operates through over 1.65 lakh post offices and employs more than 3 lakh postal workers across the country, will now facilitate this service at the doorstep of pensioners. Postal employees will visit homes equipped with biometric devices capable of both fingerprint and facial recognition.
This technology-driven approach ensures that even those with limited mobility or those living in remote areas can easily authenticate themselves and generate the certificate. Importantly, the service will be provided completely free of cost for all EPFO pensioners.
Submission Timeline for 2025Pensioners are required to submit their life certificate every year to continue receiving their monthly pension without interruption. For 2025, the window to submit the Digital Life Certificate is from November 1 to November 30.
However, senior citizens aged 80 years and above can submit their certificates earlier — starting from October 1 — giving them a full month of additional time to complete the process conveniently.
Alternative Ways to Generate a Digital Life CertificateApart from the doorstep facility, pensioners still have multiple options to generate their Jeevan Pramaan certificate. It can be obtained from any nearby Jeevan Pramaan Centre, which operates through Common Service Centres (CSCs), select banks, and various government offices.
For those comfortable with technology, the certificate can also be generated online using a mobile phone, laptop, or tablet through the official website — jeevanpramaan.gov.in. This digital system allows instant submission and confirmation, reducing the need for any paperwork or manual verification.
A Step Toward Digital EmpowermentThe collaboration between EPFO and IPPB represents a significant milestone in India’s ongoing digital transformation. It simplifies one of the most critical annual tasks for pensioners and ensures transparency, efficiency, and inclusivity in government services.
By allowing pensioners to authenticate their life status from home, the EPFO has taken a major step toward enhancing convenience and dignity for senior citizens. The service not only reduces administrative burdens but also reflects the government’s commitment to leveraging technology for public welfare.
In short, the new doorstep Digital Life Certificate service ensures that the process of pension continuation remains smooth, secure, and stress-free — making life a little easier for millions of pensioners across the country.
