Arsenal’s elimination from the UEFA Champions League at the hands of PSG at the semi-final stage of the competition which confirmed a fifth consecutive trophyless season for the Gunners naturally raised questions from some about Mikel Arteta’s future.
He remains in a position where many are yet to be convinced, he is the right man for the job while on the other side of the coin a large portion of the fan base remain resolute behind his role.
At the same time there are shortcomings both on and off the pitch that this season in particular have brought into focus. It would be fair to say that Arteta is under the most pressure externally that he has faced since perhaps the elimination from the Europa League semi-final at the hands of Unai Emery.

Yet those that are hoping for change will be disappointed. football.london understands that Arteta retains the backing of the club and they believe he is the right man to continue hence giving him a three-year contract last summer.
Arteta spoke of the aim being “to win!” While that has not come to bear this season in terms of trophies, the aim remains the same.
The club are determined to not only be established as they are in the title race and now latter stages of the Champions League but go on to win those competitions.
They could have opted to promote Jason Ayto from within or add a less experienced but more Arsenal-connected figure like Tomas Rosicky but the Italian with well over a decade of experience of transfer deals and more with Atletico Madrid sets up a summer of equal anticipation. Arteta and Berta will be working with the club higher-ups, Richard Garlick, Tim Lewis and Josh Kroenke in order to execute a summer window with the aim of upgrading the side.
football.london has been told that there is a confidence that the club will be in a stronger position come the start of next season. Another season like this, however, and the question marks around Arteta will only grow exponentially.
